Hi! My name is Susie Bentz and I am just thrilled to be a part of the Quick Quotes 2014 Design Team! I am primarily a scrapbooker and I hope you will find some inspiration in my projects this year as I work my way through my huge backlog of pictures.
I am a crafter at heart and have been creating all my life. I started to scrapbook about 7 years ago and it has truly become a passion. It is my creative outlet and my therapy! I am primarily a scrapbooker but I also enjoy altering items for gifts and home decor. Quite simply, creating makes me happy.
When I learn how to do something new, my first instinct is to share, which is one of the reasons I teach. I have found so many wonderful friends through scrapbooking. I live in Northern Virginia with my husband of 22 years and our 3 children, a dog, 2 guinea pigs, and a turtle. One of my favorite quotes is from Leo Buscaglia,“Your talent is God’s gift to you; what you do with it is your gift to God.”
I am not a chronological scrapper so don't be surprised to see the ages of my children change drastically from month to month! Anybody with children has lots of school pictures to scrapbook. I created this layout using Quick Quotes' Dusty Road collection.
The first thing I did was trim the Dusty Road 100 paper to an 11" square and inked the edge using the Biscotti PowderPuff Chalking Ink. Using my craft knife, I fussy cut along the pre-printed "embellishment cluster" in the bottom right corner. I mounted the patterned paper on a piece of blue cardstock and created a mat for the 5"x7" photo with the same cardstock.
I slipped the photo under the fussy cut, added the title with Thickers, and a bit of washi tape! The Dusty Road 200 paper has wonderfully decorative circular designs so I trimmed out 3 of them and layered them in the top right of the layout behind and overlapping the photo. I also cut out one of the little star-shaped flowers, inked it with Biscotti Chalking Ink, and popped it up for a little dimension! I added a self-adhesive pearl from Want2Scrap in the center of each design, and also tucked in a small vintage doily from my stash.
I just love all the pre-printed sentiments on the Dusty Road 500 paper! I chose 2 of my favorites and using 2 different Spellbinders dies, I cut and embossed them. They were not quite large enough to fill the die, so one edge of each is actually straight. I hid the straight edge under the washi tape on the top sentiment and under the photo mat for the second sentiment.
I distressed the edges with an emery board to reveal the embossed edge before inking with Biscotti Chalking Ink. That's about it. I try to make my layouts as visually interesting as possible, but also very easy to duplicate.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

NOTE: I did ink the edges of the background circles with Plum Crazy PowderPuff Chalk Ink. The circle in the foreground was inked with Biscotti Chalking Ink. |
