Summer Inspiration by Neva

Hello Quick Quotes friends, Neva here to share a layout inspired by our summer theme at Quick Quotes.

Summer is often the time of year family reunions occur, and in our case it was to celebrate with my parents and their 60 years of marriage!  We all gathered at Eagle Crest Resort here in Central Oregon and had a relaxing weekend together.  We took all our own photos were thankful for tripods and delayed shutter functions on the camera!

The Earth Wind Fire collection had the perfect hues of greens and blues, plus a few lighter colored sheets that compliments the photos we took over the weekend.
  • Earth Wind Fire 102 is kept as one sheet for the left side of the layout.  For the right side it is trimmed to 2", 5", and 5".
  • One 5" section is used for the reverse striped pattern.
  • The light colored small floral pattern of 111 helped the photos stand out from the green background.  It is trimmed to 6" x 8" for the left side and 6" by 12" for the right.
  • Two strips of 102 are trimmed to 1 1/4" and then punched with the stitched wavy border punch. The small strip left from the punch is saved and used below floral patterned cardstock to define the edge.
  • One 5" x 12" section of 102 is trimmed into two 1 1/2" pieces to use the striped side of the cardstock. These sections are adhered below the blue narrow strip.
  • The left side features 100 trimmed to 2 1/2" and is placed vertically to anchor the focal photo and title block.
  • All the lighter sections are inked in Powder Puff Chalking Ink in Rusty Nail. It is one of the ink colors featured in the newly available Retired Colors Set.
  • All the horizontal sections on the left are trimmed to 8" and adhered to the background next to the vertical 100 pattern.
  • The right side is adhered together to match the left with the 2" section of 102 at the top and the 5" section at the bottom.

Since I think it is Simply Amazing that my parents have been married for 60 years, I thought this sentiment from the Earth Wind Fire 500 was a great match.  It is inked in Rusty Nail as well.

To create the title I used smaller sections of 105 and 111.
  • The title is stamped in Rusty Nail and is die cut from 105, then edged with the same.
  • The Decorative label is cut from the reverse scrap of 111 trimmed from the left side of the layout.
  • The number is die cut and adhered to the center of the title block.

  • Banners from 500 are trimmed by hand with scissors and inked with Rusty Nail PowderPuff Chalk Ink.
  • Holes are pierced into each corner of the banners.
  • Small dark bronze brads are placed in the corners before adhering to the layout.  It is easier to use brad in this manner than it is to put them through all the layers of paper!
There are many people in the photos from our weekend, and Earth Wind Fire and it's subtle patterns was a great way to highlight the photos and compliment the colors.  I really like it when I can use both sides of the cardstock with a little creative planning.
