Mini Album Tutorial with Jen!

Hi everyone!  Jen here today to host the blog for you and share my project.

Thanksgiving is finally behind us and now it’s time to get ready for the Christmas holiday! To kick things off, I have an accordion mini album tutorial to share with you today.  The paper used on the mini is from the Cracklin' Rose paper line.  I inked all of my edges with Biscotti PowderPuff Chalk Ink.

Here are the supplies you will need:
  • Scoring Tool
  • Binding Machine (Cinch of Bind It All)
  • 2 Pieces of Chipboard each Measuring 6” x 8”
  • Card Stock for Accordion Sides - 2 pcs. measuring 10" X 8"
  • Cardstock for Dividers – 5 pcs. measuring 6" X 8"
  • 2 Pieces of Patterned Paper for the front and back of your album, each measuring 6” x 8”
  • Cardstock for Inserts – 4 pcs. measuring 5 ½” x 7 ½”
  • Embellishments, additional patterned paper, etc. to decorate your album
  • Miscellaneous Ribbons to decorate your binding
  • 4 Large pieces of ribbon for the “Pulls” on your inserts
  • Large Circle Punch
  • Crop-A-Dile or Hole Punch
We need to prepare the front and back covers of our album before we punch the holes for the binding.  Cover one side of each of the chipboard pieces with your 6”x8” patterned paper.  Use a good, strong glue, such as Beacons 3-in-1 Glue.  Here is a photo of the front of the finished album:

Next, we will create the accordion sides of the album and the inserts.  Using a scoring tool, score both pieces of your 10” x 8” cardstock.  Create 1” score lines vertically to create an accordion pattern.

Fold the pieces back and forth like you are creating a fan.  Note: the paper used for the tutorial are red for the accordion sides and black for the 5 divider sheets (these colors showed up a little better for instructional purposes).

Next, adhere the 5 cardstock pieces to form the dividers.  This step is easier if you adhere each divider to both of the accordion folded pieces before moving on to the next divider. Use a strong adhesive and make sure your dividers are securely affixed to the accordion pieces.

When you are finished, your assembled accordion and divider pieces will look like this:

We are now ready to create the binding for our mini album.  Punch holes in both of the chipboard pieces on one of the 6” sides.  You will also need to punch matching holes through one of the 6” sides of your accordion piece.

Glue the chipboard cover to the front of the accordion and glue the chipboard back cover to the back of the accordion, matching the holes that you punched. Add your wire binding and use your machine to squeeze the binding closed. Tie ribbons around each of the loops of wire to decorate the binding.

Embellish the front of your album with different items of your choice.  I used Christmas Cutouts from the Cracklin' Rose collection, buttons and brads.

Use the 4 pieces of cardstock that measure 5 ½” x 7 ½” to create the inserts.  Punch 4 large cardstock circles using a circle punch.  Fold them in half and sandwich each of these on one end of each of your inserts.  The circles will add reinforcement to your inserts, so that your paper will not tear when pulling the inserts out by the ribbon.  To finish the ribbon pulls, punch a hole in the center of the circle and add ribbon.

Now it’s time to decorate your inserts!  I used more of the Christmas Cutouts from the Cracklin' Rose paper line, a border punch and small vellum pieces from my Itty Bitty Vellum Quotes.

Give this mini album a try!  It’s super easy to make and gives you enough space for 8 photos or more!
